Politics Is No Longer About Lies” – Asiedu Nketiah Tasks Bosomtwe Constituents to Demand Accountability

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has declared a paradigm shift in Ghana’s political landscape, urging voters to transition from passive supporters to active participants who treat governance as a binding business contract.

Speaking to a teeming crowd in the Bosomtwe constituency as part of the second phase of his “Thank You” tour of the Ashanti Region, Asiedu Nketiah emphasized that the era of politicians relying on empty rhetoric and deceit to secure votes is effectively over.

“The new face of politics is not about lies; it is about striking a deal,” the veteran politician stated. “You tell the political party what your grievances and developmental needs are, and they, in turn, make promises to address them. If they fail to fulfill those promises within their four-year mandate, your power lies in the ballot box, you vote them out.”

The Contractual Nature of Democracy Johnson Asiedu Nketiah’s message focused on the concept of political accountability. He encouraged the people of Bosomtwe, a traditional stronghold of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), to view their votes as a commercial transaction rather than a sentimental loyalty.

He argued that the continuous cycle of voting based on party colours without demanding results has stunted the development of many constituencies. By treating the relationship between a candidate and the electorate as a “deal,” voters can hold leaders to specific, measurable benchmarks.

“When we come to you, look at our track record and our promises,” he told the constituents. “If we fail to deliver on your core grievances, do not feel beholden to us. The power is yours to vote against anyone who takes your trust for granted.”

Engaging the Ashanti Region The visit to the Ashanti Region is part of the NDC’s broader strategy to deepen its grassroots engagement and penetrate areas historically dominated by their political opponents. Asiedu Nketiah’s tour aims to listen to the frustrations of citizens regarding the current economic climate and unemployment, while offering the NDC’s vision as a viable alternative.

Local party executives in Bosomtwe expressed optimism following the Chairman’s visit, noting that his message of “contractual politics” resonates well with voters who are increasingly frustrated by unfulfilled campaign promises.

A Call for Vigilance Concluding his address, the National Chairman urged the youth and traditional leaders in the constituency to remain vigilant in the upcoming election cycle. He emphasized that the NDC remains committed to a “people centered” development agenda, but reminded the electorate that the ultimate responsibility for ensuring accountability rests with them.

“Politics should be a service, not a deception,” Asiedu Nketiah concluded. “If you demand results as a condition for your vote, politicians will stop lying and start working for you.”

The NDC’s tour is expected to continue through other districts in the Ashanti Region, as the party sharpens its grassroots.
