As Ghana joins the world in commemorating International Workers’ Day, President John Dramani Mahama has paid glowing tribute to the nation’s workforce, calling for unity and collaboration between employers and employees to foster a more prosperous and equitable society.
In a statement marking May Day 2025, President Mahama emphasized the pivotal role of Ghanaian workers in the country’s progress and development, describing them as the “engine of our economy” and the “builders of our infrastructure.”
“Today, May 1, is a special day for our gallant workers. On behalf of the people of Ghana, I celebrate your tireless efforts, dedication, and contributions to our progress as a country and people,” the President stated.
He called on all stakeholders both employers and employees to work in a spirit of mutual respect, understanding, and collaboration, which he described as essential for driving national development.
“Let us all, employers and employees, commit to fostering a spirit of collaboration, understanding, and mutual respect. Let us work together to create a more prosperous and equitable Ghana, where every citizen can contribute their talents and skills to national development,” he urged.
President Mahama reiterated his government’s commitment to empowering workers through the creation of an enabling environment that safeguards their rights and promotes their well-being.
“My government recognises and deeply values the pivotal role of the Ghanaian worker in driving our national development agenda.
I am, therefore, committed to creating a supportive environment that allows you to thrive and help Reset Ghana,” he affirmed.
He further pledged to strengthen labour laws, enforce occupational safety and health regulations, and promote social dialogue to enhance workplace harmony and productivity.
“Government is committed to strengthening our labour laws, enforcing occupational safety and health regulations, and promoting social dialogue between employers and employees,” President Mahama said.
The President’s message resonated with this year’s May Day celebration, which focused on workers’ rights, job security, and sustainable economic recovery amid rising youth unemployment and the changing dynamics of the labour market.
