Professor of Finance with the University of Ghana Godfred Bokpin says President Akufo-Addo needs to start considering a leadership change at the Finance Ministry.
This, he believes is part of the selfless leadership and sacrifice that government needs to show in order to steer the country out of its current circumstances.
The move he believes is one of those that government needs to make in order to institute the regime of seriousness needed to tackle the challenges that confronts the Ghanaian economy.
Prof. Bokpin said these in an interview with host of the Gold Morning Conversation Sena Nombo in response to the latest Fitch report on Ghana’s Long-Term Local and Foreign currency Issuer Default Ratings.
Fitch downgraded Ghana from ‘CCC’ to ‘CC’ due to an “Increased Probability of Debt Restructuring”, “High Debt Service, Financing Constrained”, “Limited Access to External Financing”, “Continued Reserve Pressure”, “IMF Programme Pending”.
Prof. Bokpin believes government needs to start demonstrating seriousness towards addressing the current challenges of the economy.
He said signals from the international market point to the fact that they do not see an urgency in government’s efforts to address the situation.
The Finance Professor also raised doubts about whether government had done some deep reflections on the challenges confronting the country.
He believes government would have approached the problem with a bit more urgency if it had done some reflections on the challenges.
