A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Madina Constituency is challenging the eligibility of former National Youth Organizer of the opposition to contest in the upcoming parliamentary primaries in the constituency.
Sidii Abubakar Musah is seen as a front runner in the primaries with watchers expecting a two horse race between the former leader of the NDC Youth front and popular human rights lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu.
Sidii Abubakar has filed to contest in the August 24, 2019 primaries to pick up the single slot to be the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Madina in 2020.
In an interesting twist however, a member of the NDC in the constituency has petitioned the NDC’s Constituency Director of Elections alleging that Sidii Abubakar Musah is not qualified to contest in the primaries.
In the petition dated July 22, 2019 and sighted by Radiogoldlive.com, the petitioner alleges that Sidii Abubakar is not a recognized member at any branch of the NDC in the constituency over the last four years rendering him ineligible to contest in the primaries.
The opposition party’s guidelines require a qualified aspirant to be a member of a branch of the NDC in his/her constituency of interest for at least four years.
The petitioner claims Sidii Abubakar has not been an active member of the NDC in Madina for four years; counting backwards from the date he picked his form.
The petitioner further alleges that Sidii Abubakar neither had a vote nor voted in the Madina constituency in 2016 and is hence disqualified from contesting in the primaries.
The petitioner further claims the former National Youth Organizer of the NDC’s inactivity date as far back as 2015 including not having his name in the extended delegates list for parliamentary primaries that year hence did not vote.
The petitioner further argues that Sidii Abubakar is disqualified from voting in the upcoming parliamentary primaries and hence it would be an affront to justice and due process if he is allowed to contest in the August 24, 2019.
Radiogoldlive.com understands that the party is set to start vetting aspirants from tomorrow Wednesday July 23, 2019.
It is however unclear whether this petition will come to the attention of the vetting committee when Sidii Abubakar appears before the committee.
