Ahead of his swearing-in as Member of Parliament for Assin North for the second time during the lifetime of the 8th Parliament, National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress has hinted at failed efforts to bribe James Gyakye Quayson out of the by-election race.
James Gyakye Quayson was elected as Member of Parliament for Assin North for the second time in less than three years on 27 June 2023.
Mr. Quayson was one of three candidates who contested the by-election which could have given the governing New Patriotic Party a one seat majority without the independent had they emerged winners.
James Gyakye Quayson polled over 57% of the votes to dash the NPP’s dreams of wrestling the seat from the NDC.
In a Facebook post, NDC National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi hailed Mr. Quayson for remaining unwavering in his commitment and love for his people.
Sammy Gyamfi indicated that Mr. Quayson had to scale the hurdle of bribery and threats to win the by-election.
“His personal conviction and determination to fight for justice against all odds even at the risk of losing his civil liberties, is the reason we are smiling today,” he stated.
The NDC National Communications Officer described the Assin North MP elect as “always calm but confident; humble but courageous; sober but inspiring; meek but fearless”.
Meanwhile, the Founding President of IMANI Africa Franklin Cudjoe has urged the NDC to identify what it did in Assin North and build on it if the party wants to secure victor in the 2024 general elections.
