The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin believes there is an urgent need for Ghanaians to re-dedicate themselves to the ideals of democracy, freedom and justice.
According to the Speaker these ideals influenced the fight for freedom which was led by Ghana’s forebears.
These were contained in a statement issued by Rt. Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to mark Ghana’s 66th Independence anniversary.
The Speaker of Parliament says re-dedication to the ideals of the struggle for independence has become necessary because of the times in which Ghana finds itself.
“Within the context of exacerbated domestic and global financial and security concerns, the celebration of this particular anniversary necessitates that we reflect on the progress we’ve made as a nation and to re-dedicate ourselves to the ideals of democracy, freedom and justice for which our forefathers fought and also died,” Rt Hon Bagbin stated
The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament emphasized the need not to take for granted the freedoms Ghana won itself through the struggle for independence because of steep price that our forebears paid for these freedoms.
“As this year also marks the 30th anniversary of the Parliament of Ghana under the Fourth Republican Constitution, it is imperative to pause and reflect on the journey thus far, and strategize to sustain the gains into a much brighter tomorrow”.
“So, on this occasion of Ghana’s 66th Independence anniversary, I entreat us all to continue working together with a nation-building focus and mindset to help build a stronger, respected and more prosperous Ghana that will be a source of pride for all its citizens,” he stated.
