Member of Parliament for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has praised National Union of Ghana Students branch in Ukraine their tireless efforts towards evacuating Ghanaian students in the war ravaged country to safety.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who has been Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament for the past five years, singled out the President of NUGS-Ukraine Philip Bobie Ansah for his leadership and stated commitment to ensuring the evacuation of every single Ghanaian student.
According to Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa, Philip Bobie Ansah and other executives of NUGS-Ukraine managed to evacuate hundreds of students to Poland, Hungary and Ukraine on a tight budget of $3000.
So far, about 200 Ghanaian students who were studying in various Universities in Ukraine have found their way to Romania where they are being lodged as they await further evacuation to Ghana.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who has been in the Romanian capital of Bucharest for the past two days was speaking in an interview with Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive.
The MP has been interacting with the students who are being hosted in Bucharest at the behest of the Ghanaian Embassy in Czech Republic after their traumatizing journey out of Ukraine.
He said Philip Bobie Ansah told him, he (Philip Bobie Ansah) and his team would only leave the country after he is convinced every Ghanaian student in Ukraine was evacuated.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also praised a Ghanaian medical student he identified as Maame Akosua for her bravery.
In a Facebook post, Samuel Okudzeto said Maame Akosua who was called “The General” by her colleagues “kept crossing back into Ukraine to assist in fetching her weary colleagues out of harm’s way and into Romania.”

In an earlier post, the North Tongu MP further applauded a staff of Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Prague Ahmed Tijani Abubakr “for his impressive consular services which have been praised by the students.”
In his interview with Sena Nombo, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed misgivings with the fact that Ahmed Tijani Abubakr was operating alone.
