Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has paid glowing tribute to Ghana’s farmers, describing them as the backbone of the nation whose daily efforts sustain households, communities, and the wider economy.
In a message shared on her social media handle to mark this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration, the Vice President said the occasion offered the country an opportunity to honour the men and women whose labour “feeds our nation and sustains our daily lives.”
She highlighted the resilience and dedication of farmers across all regions, noting that their work embodies dignity, hope, and the promise of each agricultural season.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang placed special emphasis on the contributions of women in agriculture, many of whom, she said, go to the farms each day to provide for their families. Their commitment, she noted, inspires ongoing efforts to build a system that supports farmers, protects their livelihoods, and expands opportunities within the sector.
The Vice President reaffirmed government’s dedication to pursuing policies that strengthen agriculture, ensure fair and equitable returns for farmers, and promote dignified working conditions.
“As we celebrate Farmers’ Day, we renew both our gratitude and our responsibility,” she said, adding a prayer for God’s blessings on the nation and the farmers who cultivate its soil.
This year’s celebration once again underscores the vital role of farmers in national development and the importance of sustained investment in the agricultural sector.
