A viral video capturing a tense street confrontation in South Africa has triggered widespread debate across social media over xenophobia and migration within Africa.
The footage shows an activist, Victoria Africa, also known as Queen Vee, alongside a group of locals confronting a Ghanaian national and other African migrants, demanding to see their travel documents.
In the video, the Ghanaian man, whose identity was not disclosed, appears visibly distressed as he is surrounded by about 15 individuals.
Some members of the group are heard shouting at him, with one person ordering him to “shut up” as he attempted to explain his situation.
The man reportedly told the group he was not carrying his passport because of the rainy weather, fearing it could be damaged, but said he had a travel document showing his departure from Ghana and entry into South Africa in April 2026.
His explanation, however, was dismissed by the group, who accused him of attempting to settle in their country rather than remaining in Ghana.
The confrontation escalated as members of the group questioned the presence of African migrants in South Africa, expressing frustration over what they described as increasing intra-African migration.
The activist is heard in the video criticising migrants for leaving their home countries while, in her view, failing to address challenges there.
The footage, reportedly published by the YouTube channel Reality Street Talk, has since gone viral, prompting intense reactions online.
Many commentators have raised concerns about xenophobia, the enforcement of immigration laws, and the treatment of African migrants living in other African countries.
The incident has reignited broader discussions about regional migration, economic disparities, and the responsibilities of governments across the continent to address both mobility and social tensions.
