Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Isaac Adongo has said that there is no way the Minority in Parliament will approve the 2022 budget presented to Parliament by the Finance Minister.
According to him, it’s high time the President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his political party the New Patriotic Party (NPP) come to the realization that the people of Ghana are suffering.
To Isaac Adongo, Ghanaians can no longer sponsor the profligate lifestyle of the President and therefore the Minority is there to ensure that the views of the people who voted for them are communicated clearly.
“What happens is that the government does not cut its coat according to its size. When they are given money, the President uses the money to live large and when we talk about it, he says he won’t listen to us.
A poor country like Ghana has its President using an expensive flight but Kwaku Kwarteng sits there and talks about the printing of calendars by Parliament. Calendars and flights that cost millions of dollars which one should we do away with? The President says he doesn’t care and whatever we say, he will continue to use expensive jets for his travels even when the people of Ghana are going through hardship.
Then you come today and tell us we should give you more money to sponsor your profligate lifestyle and not because you want to develop the country. You are also trying to make more money to fight COVID-19 when you’ve not been able to account for the one we gave you earlier. If you want us to help you, the small money we give you should be well spent, don’t misuse it and come telling us that we should add more because we will not because the people of Ghana are suffering. If the NPP is not aware that the people of Ghana are suffering, today we are telling them that Ghanaians are suffering,” he said on Okay FM.
Ghana’s Parliament is currently discussing the 2022 budget but the Minority has served notice that some taxes and levies introduced by the government will not get their approval.
However, the Finance Minister has said that government will find a way to get the Minority in Parliament to give its approval to some of the taxes and levies introduced because it will go a long way to help in the development of the country.
