Weija-Gbawe, Accra – Thursday, August 7, 2025.
The Weija-Gbawe Constituency has joined the rest of the nation in mourning the tragic deaths of five government officials and three military personnel who perished in a helicopter crash while on national duty in Obuasi, in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement signed by the Weija-Gbawe Constituency Communication Officer, Patrick Asford Boadu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the government, and the entire nation.
Mr. Boadu eulogized the fallen officials, describing them as “dedicated public servants who gave their lives in service to the nation.”
“They met their untimely demise while carrying out a national assignment — a reminder of the sacrifices made by those in leadership and security roles.
Their memories will forever be etched in the hearts of Ghanaians,” the statement read.
The government has since directed that national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased, as part of a three-day national mourning period.
The eight individuals who lost their lives in the crash have been identified as:
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation
Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture
Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi West and Acting Deputy Director-General, NADMO
Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala – Ghana Air Force
Flying Officer Twum Ampadu – Ghana Air Force
Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – Ghana Air Force
The statement further called on all Ghanaians to remain united in grief and prayer during this solemn period.
“We pledge to keep the affected families in our prayers and stand with them in these difficult times. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
