The Overlord of Dagbon, His Majesty Yaa-Naa Abukari II, has paid a courtesy call on H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, to offer his congratulations and express support for the President’s leadership and vision for the nation.
The speech, delivered on behalf of the Yaa-Naa by Naa Bapir Zangbaling-Naa Dr. Jacob Yakubu Mahama, Paramount Chief of Zangbalinga, conveyed the deep appreciation of the Dagbon Kingdom for the President’s ongoing efforts to revitalize the Ghanaian economy and promote inclusive governance.
“Mr. President, I am happy to be here today with my chiefs and elders to offer our warmest congratulations to you and the good people of Ghana on your assumption of office,” the Yaa-Naa said.
“This marks a new chapter in Ghana’s development journey, and I am confident your leadership will usher in an era of growth, peace, and prosperity.”
His Majesty praised the President’s swift actions to restore economic stability, citing the significant appreciation of the cedi against the US dollar, from GHS 17 to GHS 11, as evidence of sound economic management. He also commended President Mahama’s decision to reduce the size of government, strengthen cabinet efficiency, and introduce a Code of Conduct for appointees, describing these initiatives as “landmark steps toward transparency and accountability.”
The Yaa-Naa also lauded the President’s commitment to citizen engagement, referencing the recently held National Economic and Education Dialogues as powerful examples of inclusive leadership.
“By bringing together experts, stakeholders, and citizens from all walks of life, you have shown a willingness to listen, learn, and adapt. These dialogues are shaping a long-term vision for Ghana’s development,” he added.
Touching on the role of traditional authorities, the Yaa-Naa assured President Mahama of his unwavering support and willingness to collaborate to mobilize Ghana’s cultural heritage and youth potential for national development.
“As traditional leaders, we stand ready to work with you to build a brighter future where every Ghanaian can thrive,” he affirmed. “Your respect for our cultural values—especially the spirit of Sankofa—shows a deep understanding of our identity as a people.”
In conclusion, the Yaa-Naa encouraged President Mahama to remain focused on people-centered policies, sustainable development, and inclusive governance that promotes transparency and citizen participation.
“May your administration yield abundant fruits and leave a lasting legacy of prosperity and unity for our great nation. Once again, I offer my full support and collaboration,” the Overlord of Dagbon declared.
