The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the successful rescue and repatriation of 28 Ghanaian nationals who were victims of a human trafficking network operating in Côte d’Ivoire.
According to a press release issued on Saturday, May 10, the victims, most of whom are young people, were rescued through a joint operation involving security operatives and officials of the Ghana Embassy in Abidjan.
The Ministry stated that the rescued individuals have safely returned to Ghana and are currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations into the trafficking syndicate.
Government also commended the Ivorian authorities for their collaboration and intelligence-sharing efforts which contributed to the success of the operation.
The Ministry cautioned Ghanaians to remain vigilant against human trafficking schemes, particularly fraudulent travel and employment offers made by unlicensed recruitment agencies. It advised the public to verify the authenticity of job and travel opportunities with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, as well as Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad before making commitments.
The statement further assured the public that the Mahama administration is intensifying efforts to dismantle criminal trafficking networks and bring those behind such operations to justice.
