Party communicators are still debating whether Kwesi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD was right or wrong about his recent statement pertaining to how people or institutions get rich as the country gets poorer.
It could be recalled that Kwesi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) made some statements on National television (GTV) that has generated several reactions on social media.
He revealed that as the country keeps seeking the help of international financial institutions for loans, other institutions and individuals are using this loan request by the government to enrich themselves.
He expressed disgust at the situation where the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta is the transaction advisor for the international loans Ghana takes.
A presenter at Media General, Johnnie Hughes has reacted to this trending story and has made it clear that what Kwesi Kyei Darkwah said was the truth.
He added that all those speaking against his statement know for sure that KKD made a true statement. Perhaps, they are trying to speak against it because of politics.
Johnnie Hughes further stated that the statement from KKD has enlightened or awaken us to know what is happening to the loans the country gets.
Johnnie Hughes made it clear to them that they should stop pretending and do the needful by accepting the facts.
It is usually advisable for the government to get various financial experts, and lawyers before a loan could be taken in the name of the government of Ghana. This is a constitutional provision. A lot of banks in the country usually provide their experts to advise the government on certain issues.
Data Bank is one of the banks that usually render such financial advice to the government. Ken Ofori Atta, Ghana’s Finance Minister happens to be a part owner of this bank.
The issue is that with every loan the government contracts, there is a percentage that goes to these banks and advisors for providing financial advice to the government.
This has raised some concerns because these institutions are getting richer as the country gets poorer. They get rich when the debts of the country increase.
In my opinion, the Bank of Ghana and the Ministry of Finance should be the sole advisors to the government. No matter the amounts these two institutions charge, it will still end up in the account of the government.
