The NDC 2024 parliamentary candidate for Effutu, Dr. James Kofi Annan has strongly condemned the vandalism of the Effutu NDC party office.
Dr. James Kofi Annan reiterated his loyalty to President Mahama and the NDC party, saying that the president’s decisions are made in the best interest of the party and the country.
He urged supporters to exercise restraint and respect the president’s decisions, rather than resorting to vandalizing party properties.
According to reports, the supporters were dissatisfied that the president had not yet named Dr. James Kofi Annan to any office.
In a statement, James Kofi Annan, however, denounced the supporters for their “irresponsible and reckless” actions and vowed to defend the president, John Mahama, and the NDC Party with all of his heart.
According to James Kofi Annan, he received information on the morning of the demonstration that some young people were preparing to interrupt a meeting of the Constituency Executives in his office.
“I quickly called the Constituency Deputy Communications officer, informed him about what I had heard and advised them not to have the meeting in my office,” he indicated.
He said, he later picked intel that the supporters rather planned on having a press conference so he personally called the Municipal NIB Officer and implored him to monitor the situation.
“I personally forwarded the telephone number of the leader of the youth group to the NIB Officer and asked him to call him. Unfortunately, all my efforts at preventing the youth from taking action failed, probably, because of my physical absence,” he stated. “Indeed, I have been unwell for some time so I have been out of Effutu seeking medical attention in Accra, and also taking some time off to rest,” he added.
He urged party supporters to desist from associating his name with such acts, and rather support the President and the party in the efforts to reset the country after eight years of backwardness under the NPP.
“I wish to reiterate that the responsibility to appoint individuals to high offices is the sole prerogative of the President…we worked hard to bring the party into office, and I believe whatever decision the President or the party takes, is done in the good interest of the party and in the spirit of resetting our country,” the statement said.
