A group of youth supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu constituency have publicly apologized for their recent violent demonstration.
The group sought forgiveness from President John Mahama, party leaders, and their 2024 parliamentary candidate, Dr. James Kofi Annan, acknowledging that their behaviour was unacceptable.
The apology follows a turbulent demonstration last week in which a group of NDC youth expressed their discontent with the perceived exclusion of Dr. James Kofi Annan from government jobs.
At a press conference held to address the unrest, group spokesperson of the said youth, Musa Mor expressed remorse for their actions, which disrupted a meeting of NDC constituency executives and caused damage to property.
He explained that their frustrations were fueled by the recent appointment of a Gaming Commissioner, whom they believe is aligned with the NPP, over Dr. James Kofi Annan, who the group said was a party loyalist who had faced so much for their cause,” Moro lamented.
During the demonstration, the group disrupted a meeting of NDC constituency executives, leading to further tensions within the party.
“We sincerely apologize for the disruption caused and for associating Dr. James Kofi Annan’s name with our actions”, Moro said.
The youth also committed to repairing any damages caused during the protest and expressed their readiness to face any disciplinary actions deemed necessary by the party.
