Former Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio Constituency and former Minister for Youth and Sports, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, says he will withdraw from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairmanship race if the party’s current National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, decides not to contest for the presidency.
Mr. Vanderpuye made the disclosure during an interview with Sena Numbo on Gold Morning Conversation.
According to him, should Mr. Asiedu Nketia decide against contesting for the party’s flagbearership position, he would withdraw from the National Chairmanship race and seek election to a different position within the party’s National Executive.
“I will withdraw from the chairmanship race if Asiedu Nketia decides not to run for president,” Mr. Vanderpuye stated.
He explained that he is confident Mr. Asiedu Nketia has his sights set on the party’s flagbearership position, a development he believes strengthens his own case for the position of National Chairman.
Mr. Vanderpuye maintained that his decision to contest the chairmanship is influenced by his belief that Mr. Asiedu Nketia is well-positioned to seek the party’s presidential nomination.
