Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating jobs, reducing poverty, and improving workers’ rights under the leadership of President John Mahama.
According to Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, the government was dedicated to enhancing the livelihoods of Ghanaian workers while promoting economic growth and sustainability.
Speaking during his maiden meeting with staff of the ministry, the minister said the government has plans to create decent jobs particularly for the youth, women, and vulnerable groups, as part of a broader strategy to combat unemployment and underemployment.
To achieve this, Dr. Pelpuo said government will collaborate with the private sector, educational institutions, and development partners to improve skill training and entrepreneurship.
He explained that this partnership would aim to facilitate better access to the labor market and provide workers with the necessary skills to compete in the global economy.
The Wa Central member of parliament further assured of President John Dramani Mahama’s unwithering commitment to protecting workers’ rights and social protection, stating that “every worker deserves dignity, fair treatment, and protection.”
He revealed that the government would prioritize legislative initiatives, including the Labor Bill and Occupational Safety and Health Bill, to enhance workplace safety and expand social protection coverage.
