The Ayawaso East youth wing of the National Democratic Congress NDC has expressed their profound disillusionment with the Regional Vetting Committee over omissions of their preferred candidates from the shortlist for the position of Municipal Chief Executive.
They stated that, with his distinguished academic background as a university lecturer, a former constituency secretary of Ayawaso East, Constituency Elections Director and the Greater Accra Regional Member of the Elections Directorate, makes him the standout candidate for the position to bring transformative leadership to the Nima community.
They also argued that the candidates selected by the Regional Vetting Committee lack the requisite qualifications and experience for the position.
At a news conference in Accra, Friday 28th February 2025, the spokesperson of the youth, Umar Harris, said they are compelled to demand explanations from the Regional Vetting Committee regarding the omission of Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Gedel’s name from the final list ,despite being shortlisted in the previous vetting by the same Committee.
“The inconsistency raises serious concerns about credibility and transparency in the vetting process. You see, Nima is eager to bridge the development gap with other thriving communities in the country. To achieve this, we require a robust representation at the municipal level, a leader who can passionately advocate for our interest and spearhead development initiatives. Mr. Gedel is the one we all want , that why you have seen the women and the youth out here today to tells the love they have for him the kind of personality we are talking about here. We know President Mahama when he is informed about the happening in Nima he will quickly intervene save us all.”
The youth have, therefore, urged H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, to take immediate action to address the critical needs for a credible and trustworthy Municipal Chief Executive.
