Ghana has been officially announced as the host city for the Festival of Arts and Culture AFRICA Renaissance (FESTAC Africa Renaissance Festival) 2025. The highly anticipated event, scheduled to take place from September 21st to 27th, 2025, aims to celebrate Africa’s unity, rich heritage, and promising future.
The announcement was made by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Huadjeto, and seconded by Engr. Yinka Abioye, Chairman of FESTAC Africa Renaissance Festival. Both leaders expressed the festival’s unwavering commitment to Pan-Africanism, cultural restoration, and enhanced economic collaboration across the continent.
Speaking at the festival’s press launch, Engr. Abioye articulated that FESTAC is far more than just an event; it is the heartbeat of a rising continent. He emphasized that Ghana is ready not only to host, but to unite Africa in spirit, purpose, and pride under the theme “Harnessing Health, Culture, Trade, Climate Change, Gender Equity, and Tourism for Sustainable Economic Growth.”
Engr. Abioye highlighted that this year’s theme serves as a clarion call to action, boldly asserting that Africa’s future must be rooted in collective well-being, cultural identity, economic self-reliance, environmental stewardship, and inclusive growth. He posited that these pillars are not isolated goals but rather interwoven strategies crucial for transforming the continent.
“FESTAC AFRICA is more than a festival; it is a Pan-African movement of cultural reclamation, honoring ancestral wisdom, economic empowerment, and African pride,” he stated. “Africa’s true power lies not in her minerals, but in her people. Culture is the language that unites us beyond borders. It is how we remember, how we resist, and how we rise. Culture is our compass and our currency. We no longer need to seek validation from the West. Let us look inward – to our ancestors, our elders, and our youth for the blueprint of our renaissance. Ghana, with its unmatched leadership in heritage and unity, is the rightful host for this renaissance.”
Meanwhile, GTA CEO Maame Efua Huadjeto elaborated on the deeply symbolic and intentional dates chosen for this grand celebration. September 21st marks the birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s founding father and one of history’s most influential Pan-Africanists, whose vision of a united, self-determined Africa remains central to the festival’s mission. The closing date, September 27th, is globally celebrated as World Tourism Day, providing an apt conclusion to a week that will welcome the world to what she described as Africa’s cultural, creative, and economic capital.
Madam Huadjeto reiterated that FESTAC AFRICA 2025 extends an open invitation to every African country, every citizen of the continent, and the global African Diaspora. She noted the festival as a crucial platform for the private sector and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to engage, to innovate, to showcase and to lead. She also urged public sector entities, including ministries, agencies, and institutions across Africa, to support this historic festival, not merely as attendees but as co-creators of policy dialogue, trade linkages, and cultural diplomacy.
Addressing the media, she emphasized that FESTAC AFRICA 2025 is a pivotal moment to tell Africa’s story, urging local, continental, and global media to partner with the organizing team in showcasing the richness, diversity, and excellence of African people and their contributions to the world.
“GTA is honored to champion FESTAC AFRICA 2025,” Maame Efua noted. “It will serve as a cultural and economic catalyst, advancing our tourism agenda and showcasing Ghana’s leadership as the cultural heartbeat of the continent. Come September 2025, Accra will not simply host a festival; it will ignite a revolution. A revolution of identity, confidence, and unity. This is the dawn of a new narrative, written in our languages, danced to our rhythms, and inspired by our ancestral wisdom. FESTAC AFRICA is no longer a dream deferred. It is a reality unfolding. So come with your ideas. Come with your art. Come with your voice, your music, your
