The Fair Wages and Salary Commissioner, George Smith-Graham, has stressed the need for African countries to adopt digital integration of payroll and human resource management systems to boost transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public financial management.
Speaking at the 3rd International Executive Conference of the African Association of Accountant Generals in Accra, Mr. Smith-Graham said:
“A unified payroll-HR platform will ensure real-time synchronization of human capital actions and financial disbursements. It will also prevent unauthorized recruitments or payments and save significant costs for governments.”
He noted that leveraging technology in this way would help streamline public sector wage administration and reduce loopholes that often lead to financial losses.
The three-day conference brought together participants from 19 African countries, including Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, and Zambia.
It provided a platform for Accountant Generals and financial management experts to share experiences, best practices, and innovative approaches to addressing challenges facing public financial management across the continent.
According to organizers, the conference also aimed to strengthen collaboration among African countries in adopting modern solutions to ensure sustainable fiscal management.
