A new seven-member governing board of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has been inaugurated, with a mandate to promote fairness, transparency, and equity in public sector compensation.
The board is chaired by legal practitioner Samuel Adu-Yeboah of Adom Mbrodo Law Chamber.
Other members include Annie Moghtar Mohayideen of S&AC Law, Dr. Prince E. Darah of the Public Services Commission (PSC), Joyce Asiedu-Ofei representing the Ghana Employers Association, Madam Hilda Ashie, a retired staff of the FWSC, and Shadrack Mensah from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment.
Inaugurating the board, the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, urged members to uphold the principles of fairness and equity in public sector pay administration.
“The FWSC plays a pivotal role in promoting good governance and fairness in compensation. We must manage the public service wage bill within a sustainable economic framework while addressing disparities that create unrest,” Dr. Pelpuo said.
He further emphasized the need to establish an Independent Emoluments Commission to resolve long-standing inequities in wages and salary structures.
The Minister tasked the board to develop practical mechanisms to reduce labour disputes arising from pay imbalances and assured the members of his full cooperation and support.
“I am confident in your expertise and determination to deliver on this important mandate,” he added.
