Minister for Transport has announced that the Tema Shipyard, originally established by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to repair, maintain, and overhaul ships, has been fully restored to operation under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama.
For years, the facility remained dormant, but the Minister said decisive steps have been taken to bring it back to life. The Shipyard has successfully redesigned and reconstructed the Dock 1 main pump to reduce docking time, reactivated Dock 2 for full operation, and rehabilitated key offices to improve efficiency.
These interventions, according to the Minister, have created new employment opportunities. In addition, the Tema Shipyard has introduced a three-shift working system to align with the government’s 24-hour economy policy.
The Minister stressed that the revival of the Shipyard marks a significant milestone in strengthening Ghana’s maritime industry, creating jobs, and maximising the strategic value of national infrastructure.
