An Accra High Court has granted bail to embattled Senior Police officer ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo.
The officer who has been denied ACP Agordzo bail on two previous occasions was granted bail by the High Court on the third attempt.
The outspoken senior police officer was granted a GHC500, 000 cedis self cognizance bail.
Under the bail terms, ACP Agordzo was to report to IGP or his representative twice a week for three months after which he is to do that once a week.
He is also to report to the BNI twice a week for three months after which he is to report once a week.
In addition to that, he is to deposit his passport with the registry of the court.
Justifying his decision, Justice Charles Ekow Baiden said the prosecution had failed to convince him that he would not cooperate with investigations or turn up for trial if granted bail.
He said the prosecution failed to lead any evidence to suggest that he was also a flight risk and would interfere with investigations by tampering with evidence.
Justice Ekow Baiden also indicated that the argument that the suspect could not be granted bail because the treason charge preferred against him was untenable.
According to the judge a Supreme Court judgment has scrapped the regime where some offences were not bailable because the accused is always innocent until proven guilty.
The judge also said the comments on the Whatsapp platform that has given rise to the arrest of ACP Agordzo are ones that he had made in the public domain on several public occasions.
Justice Ekow Baiden said he could not be restrained from granting bail to the accused based on what he said was conjectures from the state.
