The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has officially launched the 41st edition of the National Farmers Day celebration, marking another milestone in honoring the dedication and patriotism of Ghana’s farmers, fishers, and agricultural workers.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister described the day as “the start of yet another journey to celebrate and honor the resilience, hard work, and patriotism of our farmers, fishers, and agricultural workers across Ghana.”
Since its inception in 1985, National Farmers Day has grown into one of the most important events on Ghana’s national calendar — a day not only to celebrate the toil and sacrifice of farmers but also to express gratitude for their indispensable role in driving food security, job creation, and economic growth.
This year’s celebration is themed “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.”
The Minister said the theme is a timely reminder of the collective responsibility to sustain national food security and economic independence.
“It underscores the ministry’s vision to ensure that Ghana produces what she eats and eats what she produces, thereby reducing import dependence, strengthening domestic food systems, and creating sustainable jobs across the agricultural value chain,” he stated.
He further noted that the theme aligns with the government’s broader agenda to transform agriculture into a driver of inclusive growth, climate resilience, and national pride.
With the gracious approval of His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, the Grand Durbar and National Awards Ceremony will be held in the Volta Regional capital, Ho, on Friday, 5th December 2025 — the first Friday of December, as stipulated by the National Holidays Act.
“The choice of Ho is both symbolic and strategic — symbolic because of the region’s rich agricultural heritage, and strategic because it demonstrates government’s commitment to ensuring equitable development and regional representation,” the Minister explained.
Prior to the Grand Durbar, a five-day National Agricultural Fair will take place in Ho from Monday, 1st December to Friday, 5th December 2025, in partnership with Agrihouse Foundation.
The fair will showcase Ghana’s agricultural innovations — from crops and livestock to mechanization, irrigation, fisheries, digital agriculture, and value addition.
The Minister extended an open invitation to stakeholders across the agricultural value chain — including farmers, agribusinesses, research institutions, and development partners — to participate actively in the fair and related events.
He also expressed appreciation to Corporate Ghana for its continuous support over the years, naming institutions such as Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Asaasem Bank, and Stambic Bank among key contributors to the success of the event.
Acknowledgment was also given to collaborative partners including the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Ghana Cocoa Board, and international development partners such as the FAO, WFP, IFAD, AfDB, AFD, and the governments of Italy, the Netherlands, and Canada.
Their collective efforts, the Minister noted, have been instrumental in implementing major interventions such as the Feed Ghana Programme and the Poultry Industry Revitalization Drive, both of which aim to improve productivity, enhance market linkages, and strengthen food system resilience nationwide.
The Minister appealed for more support from corporate institutions, development partners, and philanthropists to ensure the successful organization of this year’s event.
“Your contributions — in cash or kind — will not only help honor our hardworking farmers and fishers but also demonstrate your commitment to Ghana’s food security and national development. Every cedi, every tool, and every partnership counts, because when we invest in our farmers, we invest in the future of our nation,” he emphasized.
In conclusion, the Minister declared the 41st National Farmers Day celebration officially launched, calling on all Ghanaians to “renew our collective resolve to promote sustainable agriculture, celebrate our farmers and fishers, and build a resilient, self-sufficient Ghana.”
