President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning following the passing of former First Lady, H.E. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
The national mourning period begins today, Friday, 24th October, and ends on Sunday, 26th October, 2025. During this time, all national flags are to be flown at half-mast across the country as well as at Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Government Communications, President Mahama described the late former First Lady as an influential national figure whose work helped reshape Ghana’s social and development agenda.
“Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings served Ghana with dedication and commitment,” the statement read.
“Her lifelong advocacy for women’s empowerment, child welfare, and community development has left a lasting impact on our nation.”
The President added that the period of national mourning is intended to honour her contributions to public service and her role in advancing the rights and welfare of women and children across the country.
“Her legacy of leadership and courage will continue to inspire future generations,” President Mahama noted.
The Government extended its condolences to the Rawlings family and all who mourn her passing.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, her children, and all Ghanaians who feel this irreplaceable loss,” the statement added.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001 and was widely known for her leadership in women’s development initiatives.
