Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has revealed that he was never consulted by the previous administration regarding the construction of the National Cathedral, distancing himself from one of the most debated public initiatives in recent years.
Speaking on The Delay Show on Sunday, the former President said he had no knowledge of the project’s planning or execution phases.
“I was not consulted on the National Cathedral project. I don’t go to Cabinet meetings. All of a sudden, you realise something was going on,”
he disclosed.
Mr. Kufuor noted that he initially assumed the cathedral was a private initiative, only later discovering that state lands were involved and that existing buildings had been demolished to pave the way for the project.
His comments add a significant new dimension to the national conversation surrounding the cathedral, particularly on questions of transparency, consultation, and public accountability, at a time when the project continues to attract scrutiny over its funding, governance, and stalled progress.
