President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Abidjan to participate in the inauguration of Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, scheduled for today, Monday, December 8, 2025, at the Presidential Palace.
President Mahama’s attendance highlights the strong diplomatic and economic relationship between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, he reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening cooperation with its western neighbour.
“Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire share more than a border—we share a partnership rooted in mutual respect, shared prosperity, and regional solidarity,” President Mahama said.
“My presence here reflects Ghana’s unwavering commitment to strengthening this cooperation for the benefit of our citizens.”
The inauguration follows President Ouattara’s re-election with 89.77% of the vote, marking the beginning of his new term in office.
The event has attracted several African heads of state and international dignitaries, underscoring its significance on the regional diplomatic calendar.
Security has been heightened across Abidjan ahead of the high-profile gathering, with thousands of guests expected to attend.
A senior official traveling with President Mahama emphasized the importance of Ghana’s participation at the ceremony.
“President Mahama’s attendance reinforces Ghana’s dedication to collaboration with Côte d’Ivoire, particularly in trade, security cooperation, and regional integration,” the official noted.
President Ouattara is expected to use the ceremony to outline the strategic priorities of his new mandate, signaling Côte d’Ivoire’s direction for the coming years.
