The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has shut down the operations of Electrochem Ghana Limited at Ada in the Greater Accra Region over an outstanding tax liability of GH¢8.6 million dating back to 2021.
The enforcement action was carried out on Wednesday by a GRA compliance team as part of ongoing nationwide efforts to improve tax compliance and enhance domestic revenue mobilization.
Speaking to journalists, the Commissioner in Charge of Accra Area Enforcement, Mr. Joseph Annan Adjeikwei, said the company had failed to honour its tax obligations despite several notices and engagements by the Authority since 2021.

According to him, management of Electrochem Ghana Limited repeatedly ignored demands to settle the outstanding debt, compelling the GRA to take enforcement action.
“As a result, the Authority has moved to enforce compliance by sealing the facility,” Mr. Adjeikwei stated.
He disclosed that management of the company has been given a specified period to report to the GRA and regularize its tax affairs to avoid further sanctions.

Mr. Adjeikwei emphasized that the exercise forms part of intensified nationwide enforcement measures being undertaken by the Authority to address tax non-compliance and ensure that all businesses meet their statutory obligations.
He noted that government’s efforts to increase domestic revenue for national development require the cooperation of taxpayers and businesses, stressing that tax compliance remains a key pillar in funding public services and infrastructure projects.
The Commissioner warned that similar enforcement actions would continue across the country against defaulting taxpayers until outstanding tax liabilities are settled and compliance levels improve.
