President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s agricultural sector as a key driver of socio-economic growth, describing agriculture as “a powerful engine for development.”
He made the remarks while officially opening the Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026, organised by the Ghana EXIM Bank in Accra, under the theme “Transforming Agribusiness through Local Innovation and Technology.”
The event brought together agribusiness entrepreneurs, investors, and industry experts to explore innovative approaches to boosting productivity and strengthening Ghana’s agricultural value chain.
In his address, President Mahama emphasised the central role of agriculture in driving economic transformation, job creation, and national development.
“Agriculture is a powerful engine for development. When properly harnessed, it has the capacity to transform livelihoods, create jobs, and accelerate inclusive economic growth,” he stated.
He noted that government remains committed to supporting policies and investments that promote agribusiness development, particularly through innovation and technology.
“We must move beyond traditional methods and embrace modern technologies that improve productivity, enhance efficiency, and ensure sustainability across the agricultural sector,” he said.
The President highlighted the importance of strengthening the entire food value chain from production to processing, storage, and distribution—to reduce losses and maximise economic returns.
“Improving the agricultural value chain is critical. We must ensure that what we produce is efficiently processed, stored, and delivered to markets in a way that adds value and increases incomes,” he stressed.
President Mahama also underscored the need to create an enabling environment for agribusiness entrepreneurs and investors to thrive.
“Government will continue to work with the private sector, financial institutions, and development partners to build a resilient and competitive agribusiness ecosystem,” he added.
The Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026 is expected to serve as a platform for showcasing innovative agricultural technologies, fostering partnerships, and promoting investment in the sector.
Participants at the fair are exploring new solutions aimed at improving productivity, enhancing food systems, and positioning agriculture as a viable and profitable sector for economic growth.
