As part of her campaign in the Upper East region, the Vice presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Opoku Agyemang visited the Bawku Naba, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II in his palace.
The town of Bawku has been plagued by prolonged tension and conflict, resulting in gun violence and fatalities leading to security agencies categorizing as a hot spot in past elections.
Addressing chiefs and community members, Prof. Opoku Agyemang emphasized the need for peace because it was necessary for development.
“The price of peace is not cheap,” she said, rallying the community members for peace.
She stated that there was an urgent need for unity and peace to prevail in Bawku, particularly in the lead-up to the December 7 elections.
In recent times, there has been a resurgence of violent attacks as government and other stakeholders have struggled to find a lasting solution to the prolonged conflict.
The NDC Veep candidate underscored the need for the leaders and of Bawku and other stakeholders to strive to build a peaceful, safe and stable environment for the present and future generations.
Professor Opoku Agyemang told the community members to look beyond the conflict and work together in the interest of a better future for Bawku.
“These are difficult times, trying times, but we must cooperate to build unity and ensure a peaceful environment for development,” she said.
She stressed the need for collaboration between law enforcement agencies, community leaders, and citizens to ensure peace.
“We must work together to create a peaceful environment for our people and children,” she said.
