The member of parliament for the North Tongu constituency in the Volta region, Honorable Okudzeto Ablakwa has dropped some revelations about the National Cathedral project.
In an interview on Pan African Television this morning, the lawmaker revealed that some top members of the board of trustees never knew that the government had withdrawn huge amounts of money from the consolidated fund for the purposes of the cathedral project. He added that he has several sources and evidence to prove that the government failed to inform them about such a decision.
He also revealed that anytime government withdraws money from the consolidated fund for the purpose of the National Cathedral, such monies do not pass through the secretariat of the project but it goes straight to the targeted person.
With this, Okudzeto Ablakwa believes that the men of God have been deceived. He urged all of them to resign as soon as possible so that they can maintain the level of respect people always have for them.
‘I have to tell you that when I engage people close to this project. They were shocked like most Ghanaians by the amounts of withdrawals that have been made from the consolidated fund. I can tell you that even top members of the board of trustees didn’t know that so much money has been withdrawn.’
“Some of the withdrawals we have tracked reveal that Finance Minister authorizes the controller to release the funds and they pay the money directly, not through the national cathedral Secretariat or the board. That is why I have taken it a bit easy on the board of trustees because they have been deceived” he said.
