On Wednesday, October 5, 2022 President Akufo-Addo met with the representatives of the National House of Chiefs. The meeting was held to create consensus between the two parties regarding bringing to an end the case of galamsey. President Akufo-Addo since assuming office has failed to bring an end to the promises of stopping galamsey.
Many have blamed the President for failing to halt galamsey because it is alleged that some of his own appointees are involved in galamsey. Kwesi Pratt on Good Morning Ghana called on Akufo-Addo to invest in dealing with illegal mining instead of meeting with chiefs because that will not yield any profit. Kwesi narrated a number of initiatives that Akufo-Addo that have not gone anyway.
Kwesi was not optimistic that the President will get any results from meeting the chiefs. According to the Insight newspaper editor, there are so many around the president who are in galamsey and yet the president has ignored them and rather choosing to meet traditional chiefs. He charged the President to take action now because galamsey was degrading the environment.
