Delta Airlines has officially relaunched its Accra–Atlanta flight route, a connection that had been dormant for over a decade, marking a significant milestone in strengthening air travel between Ghana and the United States.
Maame Efua Houadjeto, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), hailed the relaunch as a major boost to Ghana’s tourism and international business prospects. “The resumption of this route is more than just a flight connection; it is a bridge linking Ghana to the world. Increased air connectivity means more visitors experiencing Ghana’s rich culture, vibrant festivals, historic sites, and hospitality. It also creates opportunities for trade, investment, and stronger people-to-people ties,” she said.

She credited the return of the flight partly to the GTA’s sustained promotion of Ghana over the years and highlighted the upcoming December festivities as evidence of Ghana’s growing appeal. This year’s lineup includes December in GH, Highlife @100 Celebration, the Gospel Festival, A Taste of Ghana, and the Masqueraders Event, among others.
Houadjeto added that the GTA will actively collaborate with airlines, travel agencies, and other stakeholders to maximize the benefits of the route. “We want to ensure that visitors arriving from Atlanta and other US cities have seamless experiences from airport facilities to tours across the country. This route is a gateway for showcasing Ghana as a premier tourism and business destination,” she said.
Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, expressed delight at seeing the route restored after 13 years. “Atlanta–Accra was in operation and stopped for many years, and today it has been revived,” she said. “Having lived in Atlanta myself, I remember using this route frequently. We are committed to ensuring on-time performance, safety, and high-quality customer service for all passengers. This is truly a collaborative effort, and we are proud to welcome Delta Airlines back to Ghana.”

Echoing these sentiments, Eloina Baddoo, General Manager of Delta Airlines in Ghana, highlighted the airline’s long-standing presence in the country. “This day is doubly remarkable as we celebrate Delta’s centennial of connecting people worldwide and mark 19 years of dedicated service in Ghana,” she said. “Our journey in Ghana has been defined by strong partnerships, mutual trust, and shared growth with the Ghanaian community.”
The relaunch of the Accra–Atlanta route is expected to boost tourism, business travel, and trade between the two nations, providing passengers with a convenient and reliable link to one of the United States’ major aviation hubs.
