The Paramount Chief of the Suma Traditional Council, Odeneho Dr. Affram Brempong III, has bestowed one of the nation’s most revered traditional honours, the Suma Adinkra Sword, on the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., in recognition of what he described as exemplary leadership and a transformative impact on Ghana’s gold sector.

The symbolic presentation, done earlier today, brought together elders of the traditional council, opinion leaders, and dignitaries who witnessed the rare moment. The Paramount Chief praised Mr. Gyamfi for steering GoldBod with clarity, discipline, and purpose, noting that the institution’s renewed vibrancy and positive reforms have restored confidence in the nation’s small-scale mining and gold trading systems.

According to Odeneho Dr. Affram Brempong III, the honour was not just for the individual but also a tribute to the positive national impact GoldBod is beginning to make under his leadership.

In his response, the GoldBod CEO expressed deep gratitude to the Traditional Council and dedicated the historic honour to the hardworking GoldBod team, describing them as the engine behind the institution’s recent progress.

“This recognition belongs to the entire GoldBod family. We will continue to work with dedication and integrity to build a gold sector that truly benefits Ghana,”
Mr. Gyamfi said.
The Suma Adinkra Sword, a sacred symbol of authority and exceptional leadership, has been awarded to only a select group of national figures for more than 470 years. Among its past recipients are former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and John Dramani Mahama, making today’s presentation a significant addition to its storied legacy.

The gesture signals a remarkable endorsement of GoldBod’s performance and the growing public confidence in its mandate to transform Ghana’s gold value chain. The honour, many argue, is not only a compliment to the CEO but also a proud moment for GoldBod and the nation at large.
