Election 2024: Thank God we won by technical knockout – Asiedu Nketiah pokes ‘bias’ EC

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has expressed gratitude to God for the margin of victory secured by his party in the December 7, 2024, general election and the vigilance that brought it about.

According to the national chairman, who accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of being biased against his party, it was significant that the EC had no option but to declare the NDC’s victory considering the margin of difference in the votes obtained by the NDC and the ruling New Patriotic Party.

“You know what, we were not fighting the elephant (NPP) alone, we were fighting the elephant and the referee, and the security. So we had to carry our referee into the ring. Thank God we had a technical knockout and that is how come the referee was forced to declare us winners against her own will,” he said.

The national chairman, who was addressing the youth wing of the NDC at their Victory Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, December 22, 2024, urged the youth of the party not to despair over some seven parliamentary seats that have been declared for the NPP following a re-collation by the EC.

According to him, such antics are the final kicks of the “dying elephant” and the EC.

“They are down but they believe they are not out yet. In my basic psychology, I studied something we call the ‘Illusive Grieving Process.’ What it is is that when somebody suffers trauma or a humiliating defeat such as that which was suffered by the New Patriotic Party and its surrogates, the Electoral Commission and the other apparatchiks, what happens is that they land in a state of denial.

To begin with, they don’t believe that something like that has happened, they will be living in a dreamland. And out of their dreams, they enter into what you call momentary madness. And so they are capable of doing anything.

“So if you are their sympathizer, what you do is you allow them to express this momentary madness for a while. So NPP and Electoral Commission, and their surrogates in the security services are going through the illusive grieving process. So let us allow them space to mess around for a while for them to come back to their senses,” he said.

He congratulated the youth of the party for their efforts in campaigning for the party and topping it off with their vigilance in the elections to ensure the victory of the party.

He assured the youth that the incoming government of President-elect John Dramani Mahama will work to their benefit and ensure the delivery of all the promises made to the Ghanaian youth.

On his part, the National Youth Organizer of the party, George Opare Addo, congratulated the youth of the party for their yeoman’s job in ensuring vigilance in the election and campaigning vigorously for victory.

He expressed fulfillment with the party’s performance in the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party, the Ashanti Region, during the 2024 general elections.

He underscored that the vigilance of the party in the Ashanti Region, with the support and efforts of some stated individuals, paid off, culminating in the NDC’s massive victory in the elections.

“If we managed to keep the NPP in check in the Ashanti Region, these are the young men who supported those efforts. That is why they (the NPP) couldn’t fly in Ashanti,” he said.

He revealed the NDC’s ambition to diffuse the NPP’s dominance in the Ashanti Region and make it a stronghold of his party.

“Let me assure you, all things being equal, God willing, we will turn the Ashanti Region around and make it an NDC stronghold. We are not going to cede the Ashanti Region anymore to the NPP because now we know that if we work in there, we will get what we are looking for,” he said.

The thanksgiving service held at the Accra Mall on Sunday formed part of activities by the NDC Youth Wing to celebrate the party’s victory in the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections.

The event, which witnessed the presence of several party leaders, including the National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, saw performances from several gospel artistes such as Nacee, Uncle Ato, Jack Alolome, Perez Muzik, Kofi Peprah, Piesie Esther, and the Bethel Revival Choir, among others.

Members of the clergy, including Reverend Obofour, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, Pastor Joel Duncan Williams, and Pastor Paapa Korankye-Ankrah, were also present.
