Chiefs of the Elmina Traditional Area have invoked the spirit of the late President John Atta Mills to back the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in its quest for victory in the upcoming 2024 elections.
The ceremonious invocation took place when the NDC’s running mate, Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang visited the palace as part of her campaign tour of the Central Region.
Mankralo of Elmina, Nana Ekuamaanar the Fifth, who led the invocation, said, “We invoke the spirit of Atta Mills, J.J. Rawlings to back the NDC victory in the upcoming election.”
This underscores the strong links the NDC shares with Elmina from where both late John Evans Mills and current NDC running mate, Professor Opoku Agyemang hail.
The Paramount Chief of Elmina, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI also prayed for the success of the NDC, saying, “I pray for your success and your party.”
Throughout communities in Elmina the memories of Atta Mills’ presidency continue to invoke loyalty and hope.
The late John Evans Atta Mills, who served as the President of Ghana from 2009 until his untimely death in 2012, remains a pivotal figure in the political landscape of the nation.
As a native of Elmina, his legacy is viewed with profound respect and reverence in the region.
The invocation is seen to carry substantial weight given the emotional connection many residents have with late president John Atta Mills and the positive memories from his administration.
On her part, Professor Opoku Agyemang expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the chiefs’ support, acknowledging the profound impact such endorsements could have.
