The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has strongly refuted reports suggesting that the contractor for the Pwalugu Dam project was not paid, describing the claims as false and a misrepresentation of his statements before Parliament.
In a statement issued for immediate release, Dr Jinapor addressed a viral social media publication that attributed misleading remarks to him following his recent appearance before the Government Assurances Committee.
He stressed that at no point during the proceedings did he state that the contractor had gone unpaid.
According to the Minister, his submission—broadcast live across multiple media platforms—made it clear that the contractor had indeed received payment but failed to execute the required work.
“I explicitly stated that the contractor had been paid but absconded with the funds without executing any corresponding work,” he said.
Dr Jinapor further revealed that the matter has since been referred to the Attorney-General for legal advice and possible prosecution, adding that investigations are ongoing.
Clarifying his response to follow-up questions from the Committee Chairman, the Minister noted that he reiterated the contractor had not been paid for any work actually completed—underscoring that funds disbursed were not matched by progress on the ground.
He expressed concern over what he described as a deliberate distortion of facts, warning that such misinformation risks undermining public trust and distorting discourse on critical national issues.
The Minister urged the public to disregard the misleading publication and called on media practitioners to verify information through credible and official sources before dissemination.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring that all matters relating to the project are being handled with the highest level of integrity.
