Member of Parliament for Madina Francis Xavier Sosu has served notice that he will drag the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander to Parliament over the attempt to arrest him at a protest yesterday.
According to him the conduct of the police impeded his work as Member of Parliament thus he intended to take up the matter with the speaker for the Commander to face contempt proceedings.
The MP escaped arrest by the Greater Accra Regional Police command yesterday after the youth in his constituency shielded him from the claws of the officers.
Francis Xavier Sosu told Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive that the police got aggressive after he informed them he could not honour the invite of the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander because he had a meeting to attend in Parliament.
Despite his explanation, the Madina MP said the police officers insisted and attempted to force him to honour the purported invitation even though they claim he was not under arrest.
He also disclosed that the police offered no explanation for the invite but attempted to prevent his car from leaving the grounds of the demonstration after his constituents shielded him into his car.
Francis Sosu said the officers arrested three youth of the area after they failed to arrest him.
Francis Sosu said he led the protest in fulfillment of his mandate as Member of Parliament for the area.
The Madina MP said the demonstration was peaceful and was done in accordance with police instructions and guidance, while the date for the demonstration was recommended by the police.
He therefore wondered why he was being invited by the Regional Police Commander.
Francis Sosu led a demonstration for the fixing of the Danfa, Kweiman, Otinibi and Ayi-Mensah road in his constituency on Monday 25 October 2021.
