Five newly designated envoys have formally presented their Letters of Credence to President John Dramani Mahama at the Presidency in Accra, marking a renewed commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties between Ghana and their respective countries.
The envoys include Edouard Nduwimana of Burundi, Atit Mohsen of Tunisia, Lincoln Downer of Jamaica, Althanasios Kotsionis of Greece, and Bui Quoc Hung of Vietnam.
In his remarks, President Mahama highlighted the importance of fostering closer cooperation between Ghana and these nations.
He reiterated the need to establish a Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation, which he said would serve as a platform to identify and explore mutually beneficial opportunities in the economic and trade sectors.
The President also used the occasion to announce Ghana’s intention to vie for the chairmanship of the African Union (AU) Commission. He appealed to the envoys of Burundi and Tunisia to rally support for Ghana’s bid when the time comes.
“We value the strong relationships we have built with your countries, and we look forward to even greater collaboration in the years ahead,” President Mahama said.
The presentation of credentials is a key diplomatic tradition that formally accredits foreign envoys to begin their official duties in Ghana.
