Minister for health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has imdicated that Government remains fully committed to implementing the new Conditions of Service for nurses and midwives in a fiscally responsible manner.
The Minister made this assurance during a joint press briefing with the Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko
However, according to the health minister, the immediate implementation as currently proposed would severely disrupt the national budget and essential government programmes.
In the interim, the Ministry of Health is taking proactive steps to mitigate the impact of the ongoing strike on patients, he added
The Ministry is appealing to retired nurses and midwives to volunteer their services temporarily to help maintain essential care, he appealed
“We acknowledge and sincerely appreciate the dedication of nurses and midwives who continue to remain on duty during this challenging period” he noted
“Your service to the nation at this critical time is deeply valued”.
The Ministry reiterates its unwavering commitment to constructive dialogue and once again calls on the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) to return to the negotiation table in the broader public interest.
