Foreign Affairs Minister Commissions Consulate General in Guangzhou, cautions Ghanaians to be Law Abiding

The Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey is urging Ghanaians in China to at all times abide by the rules and regulations in that country.

According to her Ghana will not shield any of her citizens who have been duly found to have engaged in an activity which is contrary to the laws of China.

Speaking whilst commissioning the Consulate General of the Republic of Ghana in Guangzhou, China, Madam Ayorkor Botchwey urged her compatriots to fully comply with the laws of China in their engagement with their Chinese counterparts.

“I would like to advice my compatriots who come here to do business or seek business partners and those with resident permits to be law abiding.”

“Please be good ambassadors of Ghana in this country to enhance our relations with China. Ghana is ready to support, and Ghana is equally ready to sanction the bad ones among you to preserve our good name abroad,” she emphasized.

She also stressed that the challenges Ghanaians and their Chinese counterparts encounter to get the required documents to Visit China will be ameliorated with the establishment of the Consulate General.

“The purpose for opening this office is to support Ghanaian and Chinese business activities to provide them with expedite consular services and facilitate trade and investment promotion between our countries.”

“From today, the long journey these business men and women had to endure to go to Beijing for visas and other trade facilitation processes would be over since the Consulate – General is here to manage all these concerns, “she reiterated.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister also pointed out  that the facility will further boost the trade ties between Ghana and China adding that “this office is a a good venue where businesses from Southern China and Ghanaian companies could meet.”

“It is also to be used tom promote a crucial agenda foreign investments and international trade which face a fair amount of challenges.”

Meanwhile, the Guangzhou Consulate General has its Consular District covering the Guangdong, Fujian and Hainan Provinces and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
