Some patients who patronize the Ga South Municipal Hospital, popularly called ‘Akawe’ in the Weija – Gbawe constituency were left in shock and surprise after the hospital demanded that they pay electricity and water bills.
According to some of the patients they were surprised to note that the consultation fee stamp which was initially GH₵2 has been increased to GH₵8, an amount every patient is required to pay before their National Health Insurance Cards are endorsed in order for them to see the consultant at the hospital.
The patients describe the development as ridiculous since the increment is astronomical in relation to the current economic challenges.
When they confronted management about the situation, the patients were informed that the proceeds from the increment would be used to pay for water and electricity bills since government is not giving the hospital any financial support to take care of utility bills.
