The Executive Secretary of the Ghana International Trade Commission, Mavis Adjei-Kwaa, has underscored the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s international trade environment remains fair, efficient, transparent, and beneficial to the growth of local industries and the national economy.
Speaking on the mandate of the Commission, she explained that the GITC regulates Ghana’s international trade system in line with the rules of the World Trade Organization and other international trade agreements.
Established under the Ghana International Trade Commission Act, 2016 (Act 926), the Commission is responsible for protecting domestic industries from unfair trade practices while promoting a competitive and rules-based trading environment.
She noted that the Commission investigates complaints relating to dumping, subsidized imports, and import surges, and may recommend trade remedies such as anti-dumping duties, countervailing duties, and safeguard measures to protect local producers.
According to Ms. Adjei-Kwaa, the Commission also advises government on trade policy, tariff reviews, international trade negotiations, and compliance with international trade agreements, while monitoring trade trends to support Ghana’s economic and industrial development.
