The leadership of the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, led by the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, paid a courtesy call on His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace to brief him on ongoing reforms and key developments within Ghana’s health sector.

M2

The visit provided an opportunity to update the Asantehene on the significant progress made by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund since its establishment and to share its vision for expanding access to specialised healthcare for Ghanaians living with chronic non-communicable diseases. The delegation also highlighted broader reforms being undertaken to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes nationwide.

M3

The delegation included the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene; the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku; the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoryea; the Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana, Dr. Peter Kwame Yeboah; Board Member of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong Gyamfi; and members of the Trust Fund’s senior management.

During the engagement, the delegation outlined the Trust Fund’s mandate, the milestones achieved since it became operational, and ongoing efforts to ease the financial burden on Ghanaians requiring specialised treatment. They also shared the Trust Fund’s commitment to ensuring that no Ghanaian is denied life-saving specialised care because of financial constraints.

M4

The discussions underscored the important role of traditional leadership in advancing national development. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s influence across communities and institutions makes his support critical to deepening public awareness of the Trust Fund and encouraging eligible Ghanaians to access the specialised healthcare support available through the initiative.

M6

The engagement forms part of the Trust Fund’s broader strategy to build enduring partnerships with institutions whose leadership and influence are critical to driving national awareness and ensuring that more Ghanaians benefit from the initiative.

M7

By bringing together traditional leadership, government, healthcare institutions, faith-based health providers, the private sector and communities, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund is helping build a future where every Ghanaian can access the specialised care they need with dignity and without financial hardship.
