What happens when the cost of treatment becomes the cost of survival?
When a diagnosis threatens not just life; but everything a family has built?
These are the realities many Ghanaians face; and the reason the Ghana Medical Trust Fund exists.
It was within this context that the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health met with the Fund—not for routine deliberation, but for a moment of reckoning on the burden of non-communicable diseases.
Led by Chairman Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, with Ranking Member Dr. Ayew Afriyie, the Committee was clear: the Fund must endure; because lives depend on it.
The conversations were honest, at times uncomfortable, but always necessary. What emerged was clarity of purpose. The Ghana Medical Trust Fund is not just an idea; it is a response. A system built to move patients from diagnosis to care swiftly, fairly, and with dignity.
In standing behind the vision, the Committee affirmed this truth: this is not the work of one institution, but a national responsibility.
And through that shared resolve, something powerful is taking shape; one that will extend lives, preserve families, and restore hope.
