Member of Parliament for Madina, Hon. Francis-Xavier Sosu has been appointed Vice President of the West African Caucus of the African Parliamentary Union (WACAPU).
His appointment was confirmed during the 83rd Session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU), held in Rabat, Morocco, from May 22 to 24, 2025. The nomination was put forward by Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
The high-level meeting, which brought together delegates from across West Africa, focused on strengthening democratic governance, parliamentary cooperation, and regional integration. One of the key resolutions was for the West African Caucus to prioritize addressing terrorism and democratic decline in the sub-region ahead of the APU General Assembly later this year.
Hon. Sosu’s nomination was seconded by Ghana’s Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Fomena, Rt. Hon. Andrew Asiamah Amoako, and was unanimously approved by delegates. Other members of the Ghanaian delegation included:

In his remarks following the appointment, Hon. Sosu, a noted human rights lawyer—described the honour as a testament to Ghana’s growing leadership within the West African sub-region.
“I pledge to work with MPs in West Africa to ensure we advocate for greater integration of West Africa. I want to thank the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin for the opportunity, the Second Deputy Speaker RT Hon Andrew Asiamah Amoako, and my colleague MPs for the confidence reposed in me. I, together with the leadership of APU, would focus on our mandate to ensure we deliver. “

The President of the Caucus is Hon. Alioune Gureyre from Mali, while Hon. Lawson Raymonde of Togo serves as Secretary.
The Second Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Asiamah Amoako expressed confidence in Hon. Sosu’s leadership, stating that he would “deliver and make Ghana proud.”
The delegation also extended their appreciation to Speaker Bagbin for nominating them to participate in what they described as an insightful and impactful event.
