Management of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has held a strategic engagement with the management of the Ho Teaching Hospital to review ongoing collaboration, strengthen the implementation of the Fund  programmes and improve access to specialised healthcare services for patients in the Volta Region.

The meeting, led by the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Opoku-Darko, brought together senior officials of the Trust Fund and the hospital to assess progress made under the Fund's operations and address key implementation issues as the GMTF scales up its nationwide activities.

The discussions centered on lessons from the Trust Funds successful 50-patient pilot programme, which provided financial assistance to patients suffering from chronic and life- threatening conditions. Officials from both institutions reviewed the programme achievements, identified operational challenges and explored practical measures to improve service delivery as more patients are enrolled onto the Fund.

A major area of discussion was the ongoing onboarding of patients onto the GMTFcare digital platform. Both teams examined the progress of the digital registration system, claims processing and reimbursement mechanisms, while identifying ways to resolve implementation challenges and enhance efficiency at the facility level.

The meeting also explored strategies to deepen collaboration between the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and the Ho Teaching Hospital to ensure that patients living with chronic diseases receive timely financial support and quality specialized care.

As part of the engagement, GMTF management took the opportunity to discuss practical steps towards actualising President John Dramani Mahama's recent pledge to establish a Cardiology Centre for the Volta Region.

The delegation and the hospital management deliberated on the requirements for bringing the President's vision to fruition, including the support needed, possible implementation strategies and how the proposed centre could complement existing specialist services at the Ho Teaching Hospital.

The discussions formed part of efforts to translate the President's announcement into a

workable plan while ensuring that the project aligns with the hospital's long-term healthcare needs.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund delegation included the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Hon. Richmond Edem Kpotosu, and the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Hon. Edem Agbana, who both commended President Mahama for prioritising healthcare and addressing the growing burden of non-communicable diseases through strategic investments in specialised care.

Speaking during the meeting, Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Opoku-Darko reaffirmed the Trust Funds  intent to building strong partnerships with healthcare institutions across the country to expand access to affordable specialist healthcare for Ghanaians living with chronic diseases.

She stressed that sustained collaboration with hospitals remains essential to the successful implementation of the Trust Funds mandate and the delivery of life-saving interventions to patients who need them most.

She also thanked the Roads and Highways Minister Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza for donating three more months of his entire salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund in preparation for the construction of the Cardiology Centre in the Volta Region.

Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. Hintermann Mbroh, welcomed the continued partnership with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and assured the Trust Fund of the hospitals full commitment to supporting its programmes, including efforts aimed at advancing the proposed Cardiology Centre for the Volta Region.

The engagement forms part of the Ghana Medical Trust Funds ongoing nationwide stakeholder engagements to strengthen institutional partnerships, improve operational efficiency and support governments broader agenda of expanding access to quality specialist healthcare across Ghana.
