The government has revised the cocoa producer price for the 2025/2026 crop season, setting it at GHC41,392 per tonne, or GHC2,587 per bag, in a move aimed at stabilising the sector and easing financial pressures on farmers.
The new price, approved by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), takes effect immediately from Thursday, February 12, 2026.
Speaking to the press, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson said the adjustment reflects prevailing conditions on the international cocoa market and is designed to restore confidence across the industry.
“The adjustment will inject immediate liquidity into the cocoa value chain, helping to fast-track payments to farmers who have experienced delays in recent months,” he said. “It is part of broader reforms to ensure the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry.”
Dr Forson added that the measure is necessary to stabilise the sector, strengthen its financial footing, and secure better outcomes for cocoa farmers.
The revised rate represents a decrease from the original price announced at the start of the 2025/26 crop season, which had been set at US$5,040 per tonne—equivalent to GHC51,660 per tonne or GHC3,228.75 per bag.
“As a result of that, the PPRC hereby announces that effective today, Thursday 12th February 2026, the new producer price for the remainder of the 2025–2026 crop season will now be GHC41,392 per tonne and GHC2,587 per bag,” Dr Forson confirmed.
The government says the price adjustment is intended to provide immediate relief to cocoa farmers, ensure timely payments, and strengthen the sector’s financial stability in line with ongoing reforms targeting long-term sustainability.
