Ghana Water Ltd (GWL) has apologised to customers nationwide following temporary disruptions in water supply caused by ongoing power challenges affecting the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company said the instability on the National Interconnected Transmission System had significantly disrupted the operations of several of its water treatment plants and pumping stations across the country.

According to GWL, the power outages have forced many of its electricity-dependent water production systems to shut down, preventing the company from producing and distributing potable water to customers in affected areas.

Management expressed regret over the inconvenience caused, stressing that the situation was beyond the company’s control.

“Ghana Water Ltd sincerely apologises to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused by this unfortunate situation,” the statement said.

The company assured the public that its technical teams are on standby and will immediately resume water production and distribution once stable electricity supply is restored. It added that it is working closely with relevant power sector institutions while closely monitoring developments to ensure services return to normal as quickly as possible.

GWL appealed to customers to remain patient and cooperative during the period of disruption, promising to provide regular updates as the situation evolves.

The interruption comes as GRIDCo continues to grapple with challenges on the national transmission system, with the resulting power instability affecting the delivery of essential public services, including water supply.
